Deep Rising is a 1998 action horror film written and directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Treat Williams, Famke Janssen, Anthony Heald, Kevin J. O'Connor, Wes Studi, Derrick O'Connor, Jason Flemyng, and Djimon Hounsou.

Synopsis

A group of mercenaries sneak aboard a cruise ship to rob it, only to discover that it has already been invaded by inhuman sea creatures and now must fight to stay alive.

Trivia

• Claire Forlani was cast as Trillian, but dropped out three weeks into filming due to creative differences. Joely Richardson was also considered.
• Harrison Ford was offered the role of Finnegan.
• Kevin J. O'Connor's frequent improvised lines, impressed Stephen Sommers so much that he would recast him in his further films.
• Trillian was named after the same character from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
• The film frequently had setbacks due to the VFX involved. Post-production lasted over a year just so they could finish the effects.
• The film was supposed to tie into a reboot of King Kong based on the ending, but obviously nothing came of it.
