"Pilot Error" is the second segment of the first episode of The Rocketeer. It premiered on November 8, 2019 alongside "First Flight".
Synopsis
While Kit learns the ropes of becoming a flying superhero, she must stop the thieving sister team of Laura and Harley from stealing jewels from the town's jewelry store.
Plot
Kit is flying her jetpack with her family watching. Ambrose tells her to keep her head straight, as her helmet is her steering. Kit is having trouble with the steering and lands in a hay bale when her family catches up with her. Ambrose tells Kit that it's enough practice for today until they can figure out a better way to talk to her in the sky.
Later, Kit and Tesh witness Laura and Harley making a getaway while Mr. Stefan is suspended in the air. Kit decides to help Mr. Stefan while Tesh and Butch go after Laura and Harley. Kit does the Suit-Up Sequence and unsuccessfully tries to remove the cable holding Mr. Stefan in the air. So, she gets a jump rope from a girl and Mr. Stefan attaches his safety clip to it before lowering him to the ground.
As Kit returns the jump rope to the girl, Tesh witnesses Laura and Harley running away with the ladder. They make it to the other side of the wall, and Tesh tries to tell Kit about it to no luck. Tesh decides to modify Kit's gear. Later, the gear is modified with the Kit-Communicator-Headeseterator, Kit-Com for short. Kit successfully tests it out, and once Laura and Harley are caught, Kit can use a microphone for bragging. She assumes that it's a little long to sing every time she helps someone, and decides to work on some more hero gear, like the jump rope rescue pulley she used yesterday. However, Tesh decides on some cool stuff (lights, sound effects, and a portable waffle maker).
Meanwhile, Laura and Harley are hiding in a closed store because they know people won't come in. They come up with a plan to steal a fishing pole and a vacuum, so they climb up to the roof of a jewelry store and vacuum up the jewels. A customer then arrives. Meanwhile, Lucille questions Kit who swipes a poor window washer's only way down. Herman then arrives with a fishing pole and is dismissed by Lucille. Kit tells Lucille about Laura and Harley holding a ladder when Herman returns without his gear. Kit tells Lucille about Laura and Harley's characteristics as they reveal to have stolen Herman's fishing pole. As he takes a coffee, Kit leaves to take care of Laura and Harley while telling Tesh about it and how much she loves the Kit-Com.
Laura and Harley make a getaway on Herman's car. Kit soon spots with them and finds that they're heading for Quimby Avenue. Tesh and Butch give chase, and Kit catches up with Laura and Harley, telling them to pull over in a high-pitched and low-pitched voice. Kit soon speaks in a robotic voice, and it turns out, Tesh tells her that she found the voice disguise feature he put in.
Tesh spots Laura and Harley right in front of him and heading for the car wash. Kit gives chase but quickly loses them, and they continue their getaway. Kit exits the car wash and Tesh tells her about Laura and Harley's escape. Later, Kit tells Tesh that she only wants to catch Laura and Harley but needs something to help her with that. Ambrose tells Kit and Tesh that they're not listening to each other, and the most important things about a superhero's gear are that it works and is cool if they listen to each of their ideas.
Later, the Kit-Com is fixed, and Kit does some loops. Meanwhile, Laura and Harley steal a vacuum and a bowl of popcorn while Kit tries her rescue cable, which works. Kit knows that she and Tesh will need to build more cool gear someday, and when they do, she'll come to him for ideas. Afterwards, Ambrose notices his vacuum missing. Turns out, Laura and Harley are planning to use it to suck up all the jewels. However, Laura is told to lower the pole into the store first before turning on the vacuum.
Tesh soon spots a ladder next to the jewelry store. Kit arrives and spots Laura and Harley stealing the jewels, telling them to stay put. Kit uses the rescue cable to tie up Laura and Harley before returning the jewels to the store. She tells them to work on listening to each other before reuniting with Tesh. Kit celebrates by saying "Never fear, I'm the Rocketeer!" Tesh decides on a sick beat to make it cooler.
