Carl Robert Fallberg, Jr. was an American cartoonist and writer, who worked for various mediums for The Walt Disney Company.
Fallberg was born Tennessee to Swedish immigrants Carl Fallberg and Gunhild Sjostedt[1][2] who moved to Chicago for better opportunities. He attended Nicholas Senn High School and upon graduating in 1934, he sent a letter with samples of his gag ideas and artwork to Walt Disney. On his third attempt, he was offered a job and began working at the Hyperion Avenue studio in 1935. He soon met his wife Becky Dorner, an inker and daughter of the landlord whom he was renting to.
At the studio, he served as an assistant to Perce Pearce during the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs before becoming a storyman for Fantasia and Bambi. He soon joined the U.S. Marines at Quantico, Virginia as part of the Marine Corps film unit creating propaganda and training shorts for six years. Following his discharge, he worked freelance for the company writing and illustrating comics through Dell Publishing and others, such as Western and Gold Key, often collaborating with fellow comic artists, such as Paul Murry and Floyd Gottfredson. From 1952 to 1977 where he wrote stories about The Lil' Bad Wolf, Jiminy Cricket, Ludwig Von Drake, Scrooge McDuck, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. He also worked on special projects, like writing Adventure in Disneyland for the Richfield Oil Giveaway in 1955, the 1976 Mickey and Goofy Explore Energy comic book for Exxon, special Disney themed magazine covers for brands, like Sears, and a comic strip adaptation of Babes in Toyland with John Ushler and Joe Rinaldi.
Outside of Disney, Fallberg also created comics for Hanna-Barbera as well as contributed to several of their animated shows, such as Yogi's Space Race, Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, Josie and the Pussy Cats in Outer Space, The New Scooby-Doo Movies, and The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show. Other studios he freelanced work to by the 1970s included UPA, Warner Bros., MGM, and DePatie-Freleng studios. In 1985, he also released Fiddletown & Copperopolis, a compilation of cartoon drawings related to railroads and "narrow gauges".
He passed away in 1996.
