"GoldenFly" is the second segment of the seventeenth episode of Special Agent Oso. It premiered on July 18, 2009 alongside "License to Chill".
Plot
In Scotland, Oso is in training one night to carefully steer Wolfie's boat to the dock near the lighthouse on an island and park it while following the light. After Wolfie leaves his boat, Oso starts the exercise once he spots the dock with his telescope. Meanwhile in Mombasa, Kenya, a boy named William is trying to catch a firefly to show to his father. William has ten more minutes to play outside, and he assumes he'll never catch a firefly before bedtime. Back in Scotland, Oso tries remembering how to find the dock when a special alert is called, then he gets distracted by a duck and goes for a spin. Mr. Dos informs Oso about William having trouble catching a firefly. Oso accepts the assignment and is given the three steps for it: find a firefly, put one hand under the firefly, and gently cover the firefly with your other hand. Whirlybird then picks up Oso while Paw Pilot goes over the code name for the special assignment, named GoldenFly.
Once at Mombasa, Kenya, Whirlybird drops Oso off at William's house. For the first step, Oso is told that a firefly is a small insect with wings and lights up. After going through a caterpillar and a moth, Oso and William find a firefly, which then flies away. William states that fireflies don't stay lit up all the time, and to find them, Oso has to follow their light. William then spots a firefly on the flower and then on the bush. Oso then puts his paw under the firefly.
Oso tries to cover the firefly with his other hand, but it flies away. With nine seconds until William has to go inside, Oso spots the firefly near the tree, and he helps William cover the firefly with both hands. William shows his father the firefly he caught before letting it go and heading back inside for bed. Oso then heads back to Scotland, where he follows the light to park Wolfie's boat at the dock, earning his Night Navigation Training Award. Also, since William got to catch a firefly before bedtime, Oso has earned a Special Assignment Digi-Medal.
